Eyelet Tool Maker

Stewart EFI, located in Thomaston, CT is currently looking for well qualified, highly motivated individuals to join our workforce as we continue to grow as one of the largest international suppliers of precision metal, deep drawn, progressive die and slide-formed metal stamped components, and automated assemblies. As an Eyelet Tool Maker, your expertise and experience will be called upon to set up and improve transfer tools & presses as well as develop tooling for new parts. Experience with US Baird Transfer Presses is a plus but not required. You will be responsible for fabricating, fitting, and assembling highly complicated eyelet punches, dies, etc. and preparing the press for production to meet customer specifications.

In performing your job successfully, you will be efficiently performing a variety of essential duties to set-up the press, develop the tooling to bring the part to print and set-up the necessary equipment to start production. These daily activities will include project planning, laying out tools, and performing difficult and exacting bench and machine operations to construct, fit, and assemble highly accurate eyelet tools, punches, dies, and gauges.

Performing your work in a team environment, you’ll be working directly with the department manager and engineering team as you are installing & assembling each station, timing the press, determining proper clearances, etc., to produce tight tolerance parts. On occasion you will also be involved with developing new tools. You will be grooming complicated and expensive tools to bring the part to print and get production started. Once production is going, you will work to improve the process driving cost & waste out while improving press speed & efficiency.

Your deep draw experience and abilities will be useful setting up and troubleshooting jobs as well as routinely practicing good workmanship necessary to produce a quality product. While complying with safety regulations applicable to all employees as well as those specific to the job you are performing, you will be maintaining a clean and orderly workstation as well as following good housekeeping practices.

Your co-workers may look to you to help solve dimensional as well as production problems, collect data, provide support, and draw valid conclusions to quickly resolve the issue.

Machine Operator

As a Machine Operator, your qualifications, expertise and experience will be called upon to operate Progressive or Transfer presses to automatically punch, cut, or form metal parts by performing the various duties to ensure production continuity and to meet production targets according to departmental work instructions. Experience is not required but a plus.

Your workday duties and responsibilities will find you following department procedures to ensure production continues to run and on a regular schedule, maintain the machines via cleaning and lubricating. Monitoring all lubricates and coolants for tooling and the machines is something you are very familiar with as is starting coils, moving scrap from the presses, and managing the necessary paperwork.

Working in an active team environment, you’ll be working with the department manager and toolmakers, to keep the presses running and producing parts that meet the print and customer requirements.
You’re proud of the quality of work you do, so your weekly activities will also see you monitoring production parts for defects using appropriate measuring devices as well as complying with all safety rules and regulations for the safety of all your fellow employees.

As an Inspector, your expertise and experience will be called upon to inspect production parts as well as parts coming back from outside processing for the transfer, progressive and/or slide-forming production. We have an extensive quality lab which includes various test and measurement instruments and gages, including, micrometers, calipers, indicators, pull testers, height gages, optical comparators, attribute gages, hardness testers, CMM’s, contracer, digital microscope… Experience with a Zeiss CMM would be a plus but not required. You will be responsible for reading the prints and inspecting parts to ensure the parts meet the print.

In performing your job successfully, you will work with the production team to complete the inspections to get production started and to ensure ongoing production is meeting the print. Performing your work in a team environment, you’ll be working directly with the production team as well as the quality team.

We have an extensive tool room which includes lathes, mills, grinders and wire machines. Experience with Prototrak, Studer or Agie controls would be a plus but not required. You will be responsible for reading the prints, setting up the machine, manufacturing the tools and ensuring the tools meet the print.

In performing your job successfully, you start with the print and produce tooling to the print utilizing the tool room equipment as required. You will also provide input on tool designs and suggestions from improvement to simplify the tool to make it easier to produce or to tooling production problem.
